Hilgardt's Story

Life sometimes takes unexpected bends and turns. For Hilgardt, his unforeseen twist took place on an actual highway: the N-1 between Stellenbosch and Cape Town, South Africa.

On the drive to his final exam to become a chartered accountant, Hilgardt received a call from his mother, who had bad news. “I am sorry, son,” she said. “I know how hard you have worked for this, but you are in the bottom 50 percent of your class, and you are unable to sit for the exam.”

Stunned and numb — as if the actual highway before him had fallen away — Hilgardt reflected on all the time he had dedicated to his goal, and for the first time in his adult life, Hilgardt felt the embarrassment of failure. He had just gotten engaged and made promises to his fiancée and himself that he could not fulfill without achieving his goal of becoming an accountant. Instead of giving up and letting this setback crush his dreams, Hilgardt pushed ahead.

While redoing his academic year, Hilgardt relied on a saying his mother recited when he was a child as inspiration: “The poorest of all men is not the man without a cent, but the man without a dream.” This brought about the realization that his dream wasn’t only to help businesses make sense of their financial past, but to aid families in preparing for a confident financial future.

After passing his accountancy exam, Hilgardt began his career with an unshakable understanding of what it means to pursue dreams through adversity, never give up and always put others’ needs first. This insight guides Hilgardt and the LifeWealth team to this day.

Today, Hilgardt is blessed to be married to Janice, the same woman who stuck it out with him so many years ago. Together, they have three amazing boys.

On behalf of the Lamprecht family and the LifeWealth team, thank you for the honor and privilege of helping you work toward making your dreams a reality.
